3DMany, many ships (Jayru WIP Thread)

And for my next project...

Something original, from my imagination, to go with some other ships I have been working on. A big bulk capital ship. Currently, a little over 1,500 meters in length, with three primary plasma cannons, and yet-to-be-added point defence weapons and missile launchers, the "Protectorate Heavy Cruiser" number 179 in this case:

VZDRcIK.jpegJdg7KnP.jpeg9xYbdP4.jpegXBAk5WR.jpeg

And to give an idea of scale:

wsI0H82.jpeg4vttzr2.jpeg
(Excelsior is my own)

This is NOT a Trek ship, or from Star Wars or anything else. Just something from my mind that have been thinking of building for a time. More on it as it develops. Comments are welcome, more as and when :-)

Should add, it's going to be a ship from the same fleet and universe as this one:

I'm definitely seeing elements from your Liberator redesign, but I like how you're taking it into a distinct direction, big fan of that mentality. Both ships look cool, in particular I'm digging the Brutalist motif for that transport ship, it's a little Dune but not Dune

    Thank you.

The "transport ship" thread can be found here: Project Dragonfly (few years old) - more of a long-range combat ship, not a small one, three decks if I remember. I had to make the capital ship big enough to be able to carry a few of them in its hangar, along with drop ships.

Yeah, I have to admit that my redo on the Liberator was influenced by this - I've been sitting on this design for a few years. It's unusual for me, as it's going to be a pure warship. Still have a lot of detail to build in, point defence batteries to add, the missile launchers and the like. I like the idea of regenerative power, hence the ram scoop and all the solar arrays. It's going to be fun to put together :-)

reworked the main plasma cannons, added secondary defence weapons, and started work on the ram scoop and the hanger.

More updates - have changed the engines to be more in keeping with the smaller "Dragonfly" and have begun to build up detail on the main hull:

I love it so far, could fit into any number of universes with just some small tweaks,

Started the massive task of texturing. Going to be playing and tweaking this for a time until I'm happy, but here's a start:

Will be getting back to layering on the details, so comments and thoughts welcome, more later :-)

Rooms behind the windows built - also some of the window bays are in. I keep forgetting just how massive this ship is!

Neat that the design considers heat dissipation.

    Thank you!

The large "wing" like structures are solar arrays, with the vents on the lower hull (under the hanger) acting as a ram-scoop. But yes, there are radiators and vents on the main weapons - the big guns need to disperse all that heat after all!

    More soon.

More detail added, a little bit more to add and then I'll move on to the "command area" and finish this beast off. Missile tunes are finally in as well (on the nose) as well as some greeble like sensor thingies:

That is so anime looking it hurts.

That is a compliment. It hurts because its not (yet) IN an anime to watch.

    Love it.

Thank you - I do have some plans for it, and after a night's sleep, I have some changes I plan to make to it as well... The "command" bubble needs to be changed, I don't like the detail I originally did. Some additional hangers are a possibility as well, for the smaller "dragonfly"/Sentinel Craft I built a few years back.

Then I guess I need to share the back history of this type of ship, and some production renders :-)

    Updates - new command "bubble/sphere":

    HQUU0Np.jpeg

Needs a little more detail, but it's close.

    Decks:

    2PBZrIw.jpeg

Total number of decks = 147. The length of ship is 1,510 meters. This is the biggest thing I have every built (so far, lol - there are the baddie ships to come...)

Comments welcome, off to add some more hanger bays, more later :-)

A Protectorate Sentinel. Old project, under the name of "Project Dragonfly" on here, but revived as it's a part of the larger project this is:

    tKvtW0P.jpeg5lzQhQr.jpegqo54xUm.jpeggjbztda.jpegiuULCwu.jpegu2PbLk2.jpeg

Some changes need to be made, for instance - the colour scheme has been updated to match the capital ship - but I also plan to add some solar arrays to the wings...

Comments and the like welcome, more on this soon :-)

I think the issue might be that the wings seem small/thin compared to the body (even though a spaceship doesn't need wings). I might add a point of articulation so the shape can change, give it a sense of motion/direction.

    Thank you!

The wings themselves are not a problem for me, but rather the addition of the solar collectors. Maybe the issue is that it's wrong because the wings are so thin and I need to rethink if this size ship should have them. Plus the wings do fold up ;-)

Saying that, the "Sentinel" is not small ship, it has three decks and a good crew size.

    I'll sleep on it.

Yeah, I know it's a big ship, but it's got a bug shape and we think of the "wings" as bigger than the body. So to see them smaller doesn't quite feel right in our brains. Perhaps the trick is to think of them as fins like on a fish, those can be smaller and spread out a little wider.

I agree and will have a rethink - the wings are sort of "what's the point of them?" and I need to have a play around with size. I have some ideas about what to do with the solar collector part of the wing, and what I did wrong - it's the shape that needs to change.

Hospital this morning, and then back at the coal face this afternoon - so updates will be later in the day.
