Futuristic FPS/RPG Game MOD

As the title of the thread indicates, this game will be an FPS/RPG staged in the future. We are sorely in need of coders, mappers, modelers, skinners, ...you know the list..., just anybody who would want to help at all.

* Qualifications for the project:
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!!! If you just like the idea of the game and would like to chime in a few ideas here and there, fine. If you would like to start getting into the "modding community" but have no "skills" that's fine, we will help you train.

* Brief description of the project:
The game is set about 200 years into the future, and involves all of that fun scifi stuff we like to dream about. Things like space travel, aliens, wars, new technologies, alien technologies, all that good stuff. You can learn a whole lot more about the game at our website. Or if you would like to know more, just ask.

* Brief description of it's goals:
We are currently working on the first release, and would like to have:
+ 5 to 8 good-sized, relatively well detailed, and fully interactive maps.
+ 8 to 12 npc models of 2 races (humans being one) (will probably be using some of the "stock" HL2 models as well).
+ 4 to 6 player-character models.
+ 10 or so ship models (would probably just be externaly complete).
+ A good hand-full of other vehicle models (one or two could be drivable).
+ A good hand-full of usable/equipable weapons.
+ Quite a few "Ambient World Junk"/"stuff that lies around" models.
+ Skins for all of the above.
+ Lots of HUD and main-menu GUI development/coding needs to be done.
+ Will also need quite a few sounds as well as a musical score.
+ Game will be an RPG so there has to be tons of possible storylines.
+ A nice video to accent the game.
+ There are probably a few things I missed but you get the idea.

[The Doors of Convergence]

* The benifits of being involved:
Why should someone be involved?
There will be no form of "monetary" compensation or free webhosting. I guess there is just the experience you can put under your belt and the gratification of being a major part of the creation of a cool game.

* Images of the development process thus far:

There are more but they are currently unposted.

* Number of staff currently involved:
There are only 5 of us so far.
I (G.I. Jimbo) am still relatively novice in most things, but know how to make a mod anyways. I can do a little of everything and am still training of course(who of us aren't?).
Thorthefifth is our main modeler and he's no novice. We could still use modelers tho. He is also a good concept artist.
Kristinjayne is our composer of music, and she can do it at a pretty advanced level. Still, if you feel you could maybe help with that you are encouraged to.
Zan Shin is an art student. He and Thorthefifth are our main concept artists. He will probably be doing a lot of skinning and mapping, and I am helping to train him in a lot of the "other stuff" that deals with modding.
Psychott is pretty novice at modding but is a pretty BA gammer, he will most likely be our head beta tester, but I am going to train him in some of the "other stuff" as well.

* Game/engine that is being modded:
Source engine (engine for Half-Life 2)

Please apply at the game website. Or contact me by pm.

Haha, I'm still learning. The main problem is that most of the members (including myself) are college students that don't have a lot of time to devote to the MOD. I also recently got married and that takes major priority too. Everybody has thier higher priorities which means less work time on the mod, and that's why we are looking for more members.

Thanks for the reply though, it at least shows me there's some interest. I was beginning to doubt.

(The following overview is posted on the game website as well)

The International Space Organization (ISO) on Earth sends a space mission to a planet (Spektos) orbiting Alpha Centauri. When the mission takes off, the ISO starts construction on a "wormhole gate" (currently named Worm-gate for lack of a better name) just outside our atmosphere. Plans and materials for a matching gate had been placed on board the space mission, so they could construct the other end of the wormgate when they got to Spektos. The mission takes about 20 or so years to get there.

Unfortunatly for the mission crew, there was a hostile alien race (Spekters aka "Green-Bloods" ) on the planet. Because the crew was un-suspecting and defenceless, it was completely wiped out. The Spekters found the plans for the gate, and constructd it. They then used it to transport a huge invasion fleet to take over Earth. There is a massive war between the planets, and the war is ended by the signing of a treaty which formed a new force called the Inter-Planetary Union (IPU). The IPU is similar to our modern day UN, however, it is actualy (un-officialy) controlled by the Spekters. It was sort of their sneaky way of assuming controll of the Humans.

The game player first gets to start playing right after the war is over, and the treaty is signed. Since, the game is meant to be an open ended RPG, we plan on eventualy having multiple races to choose from, as well as different start locations, character histories, and even times. Playable races will be unlocked as the player's initial characters encounter them in the game.

More gates are eventualy built that reach to other planets and civilizations, and new forces and aliances are created. There are 4 main forces that are created:

* The IPU
* A rebelion focused agains the IPU (much like the rebelion in Star Wars)
* A sort-of black market syndacate
* An aliance of Assasin-Mercinary-Vigilante-etc. groups and individuals

The game is meant to be VERY open ended to make it a true RPG. Therefore the player should be able to create and form almost the entire story themself without having to follow the "one or two paths" that many games offer. This will require lots of side-quests, a good handfull of quests that progress the "universal storyline", and many ways to "achieve power" or make one's self "significant" in the universe.

The game has a new MUCH better looking homepage! Check it out at Doors of Convergence - Home
It is still under construction but is looking better all the time.
