Why would you go with tesselated? If I did a quad dome, I could add a frame support for the dome alot easier because of the straight lines. With the Tess dome, adding the frame work is going to be a lot harder, if I even add it at all. Tho the fram structure would help with the scale issue . .
what do you think?

Well my limited knowledge tells me that tesselate dis stronger anyway so you probably wouldn't need as mu ch of a frame(assuming we are talking about the same thing here) and there's also the fact that everyone does quad domes. They are.....well, boring. Tesselated ones are rarer and more intersting, and make for a better looking scene. On the other hand they tend to look chopped off(where it hits the ground) and I personally prefer my domes slightly squashed which may be harder to do with the tesselated style.
You could go for the hex(or is it octo?) style of the Eden Project.
