I know exactly what you are talking about. Domes have been a common thread in some of my projects as of late. yeah, it's kind of stupid to have the dome resting on the ground. one dome I build was being generated by a series of energy genies that skirted the circumference . . . .
But yes something to support the dome is always good . . .
here is an example from my last project:


maybe for this dome I will come up with something a bit different for supporting the dome.
