Maybe eight or nine years after Voyager's return to Earth. Romulus has extended olive branches to the rest of the Alpha & Beta Quadrants. Many are suspicious of the Romulans' plausible motives --- possibly to lull the Federation & their previous allies into a false sense of serenity/security. The Klingon Reformists are arming to conquer the Romulans, regardless of the newly-discovered "Savior" Miral Paris.
And quite despite the likely intervention & mediation via the Federation. (So Starfleet doesn't lose permission to operate the U.S.S. Defiant's Romulan cloaking device.)
As well, the Vulcans are at odds with one another over long-range Romulan "Reunification". The Andorians & Tellarites are bracing for virtually anything to break-out at this point. They don't buy the Romulans' story any more than the Romulans' Vulcan cousins.
On the Maquis Homeworld (during some talks on Parliament & others on Babel,) the small handful of former Federation-turned-Maquis & Cardassian citizens that were left after the Jem Hadar purging of their colonies have blended with the Bajoran survivors of the Cardassian Occupation.
Campaigns of Amnesty have recently begun. Talks conducted by the Vedeks of Bajor, the Cardassian Resistance, & Starfleet's Diplomatic Corps. Campaigns where mature dialogues & sincere apologies (hopefully leading to permanent reconciliations,) pertain to War Crimes launched upon one another.
Meanwhile, The (rebuilding) Maquis have politely but firmly removed themselves from any current & future involvement in the Post-Voyager renaissance towards Starfleet's desire for further 'pure exploration'.
I could see a lonely kitbashed vessel (as a result of The Dominion War & Wolf 359,) headed out to map interweaving sectors that will (one day) sprout The Great U.F.P. including the Bimphalian Empire.
I can see a cameo of the Barzan Wormhole as a one-time means of becoming innitially acquainted with the Bimphalian Empire.
The Federation ship is just cruising along on its originally intended journey & all of a sudden the wormhole comes streaking right at them, typical of the Barzan Wormhole, as it flails around like a fish out of water at both ends. They end up making it back to Federation territory (relatively) easily enough as they're capable of short transwarp "hops" as Benamite-type hybrid dilithium fabrication & transwarp technology both (still,) have some "issues".
I'd feature stories that (very occasionally,) jump ahead/backward in time a-la Ent's "Shockwave" episode, that draws undue attention to them & curiosity/animosity from a variety of species in the Delta & Gamma Quadrants. |
