Well, I think it's time I do this again. I'm sure some of you will remember the Akira Class I did a couple of years ago, which I'm currently doing a small face lift, and will be showing some new images in a few days. Anyway, since that time, I've learned new modeling techniques, did a few car models and recently I've been wanting to try those new techniques on a Star Trek ship plus I've been playing Starfleet Command III and that has motivated me to do Trek again
So, I thought about which ship to do, and I was going to make the Steamrunner, since it's a ship you almost don't see being done. I actually did a start on it, but it has two big problems: Lack of reference, and I don't particularly like it. I still have the file here though, so I might pick it up again in the future. But then I watched First Contact again and I decided to make the Defiant. It's perfect to test sub-d modeling and it's a ship I've always liked.
I started doing it yesterday afternoon and it's progressing quite well so far. There still a few pieces to make before I start to detail it, though those details will be restricted to the large things only. The hull lines and panels will be textured like I usually do as I want to try and limit the pieces where I'll have to use booleans/shapemerge. So far I haven't used them and I hope to keep it that way.
Anyway, a few pics attached, and if you spot any issues feel free to point it out. I am going to take some artistic liberty in a few spots, but they are very minor.
I'll have some new updates later after I return from college
