That would be an object error. I think here it's more that the render engine is triangulating the object before drawing it on the screen. Even if the object itself isn't triangulated.
I have a feeling it wouldn't look as it does if did the boolean with a primitive that had fewer polygons. Maybe an elongated octagon rather than a cube with rounded edges.
Either way I'm beyond that part now.
