My son just placed 3rd (out of ten, only) with his pinewood derby car. He asked me if we could make it look like a trek shuttlecraft (what a coincidence, lol). He competed last Saturday. I did all the cutting with a scroll saw for the basic shape, but he did all the rasping, shaving, sanding, painting, and detailing. He had a blast!
It's fun to see them have fun with this sort of thing. It's a perk for me that he wanted it trek-like.
I also liked the Star Wars design shared above. We'll have to try that one next year!
