the full image is 8x as big (which should be A3 at 600ppi if I worked it out correct), it was a bit of a pain working at that resolution, I guess I need more ram

Wow, very nice image. That should be roughly 7000 x 10000 pixels. Awesome.

Print it out nice and big, and unfurl it from the roof of parliament in a protest over the lack of the 6pm sci-fi slot, or something

well the planet is meant to be 'waist deep' in the space dust, I can see now it's not very clear but then again I'm not a good painter (you wouldn't see the lower part of the rings much anyway because the bottom of the planet would only be about 50 pixels above the bottom of the image)

well actually it started out as the background of a larger painting, but I couldn't be bothered to do the foreground

maybe when I get my PC fixed I'll return to it and finish it with some 3D work

I pity the fool!

It's certainly better on my (better calibrated Adobe RGB 1998) home monitor than on my crappy work item, but still very subtle.

Chrono: I can see your point there, but the filename (Planet_Matte.jpg) suggests to me that this is intentional. I don't know though, I'm just speculating.

yeah guys, interestingly if you tilt your head to the left and look at the image it becomes a bit clearer, I thought about making it landscape because of this, but the composition really fails that way

*edit* just noticed this

feel free, I have the 10k PSD but it's uncropped and doesn't have the dust, maybe you'll like it more that way lol

I pity the fool!

I'd love to get my hands on the PSD! Would be sweet to make a nice big painting using that as the background.

Nah, I'd agree on the landscape thing- it really works in portrait format.

Here comes the water, It comes to wash away the sins of you and I.
This time you see- like holy water, it only burns you faster than you'll ever dry.

You know, another angle that could work is if you vertically flipped the image. They would provide some great compisitional options.

I've deliberated quite a bit on this piece, and after some good amount of thought and looking at the actual PSD, I was boggled by the detail that was lost in the thread post. In my professional opinion, I think this piece is just great. Sure, it has some iffy areas but it's mood is vast. A lack of primary focus in the foreground, while a risky move, was executed successfully. It just really pulls one's imagination in and invites you to play. I know that my creativity was spiked when I saw this piece and I know other's were too.

So welcome to the header, IRML
