Interesting. Spain at these time, lacks of good airforce (basic, Franco bad guys, get many planes from Germany that will be used in WW2.) and tanks and mechanized units, but had a very good manpower and not bad stuff in artillery (for some time, he was thinking in capture Gibraltar from English, using number and artillery. I your universe, i think that Gibraltar was taken by Spain when enter in the Axis.)

Other question ... what happened which South America countries ? I think that mainly keep neutrals, but perhaps one or two come to Axis and/or Allied

PD: Oh! You killed Patton!. I really like these crazy guy. It was a good general, not like these English stupid general...

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. This project is slow going and I'm still doing a lot of writing for it so art updates will continue to be sporadic as I flesh out bits here and there.

Today I've got a very minor update to the map, all the stars are in place on the system maps and I've added some line here and there to the main map to make the "Home Three" pop a bit:

One of the major side projects for this is designing the space branch of each of the major player's militaries. I've fleshed out big chunks of the U.S. Space Corps as the first of these, here's the first pass of the insignia and rank structure (which also gives a clue as to uniform colors [subject to change]). You'll see some similarities between this insignia and the real-world U.S. Air Force Space Command insignia, to give it a bit of realistic edge. Also, note the Space Corps motto. The officers aren't finished yet:

I've started the first Allied ship design as well, but there's nothing to show yet. Soon though. It's a pathfinder for the basic overall look of the Allied ships. And I finally have thumbnails that I'm pleased with for the shape and style of the Axis ships, so that's on a back burner as soon as I finish the rough for it.

The majority side with the Allies, most of them had declared war on Germany by the end of the war in the real world. I might have Argentina, under Perón, ally itself with the Axis but I haven't gotten there yet. I still only have a few major points in the timeline filled out past 1945 and I'm still writing 1945 itself. By that time the timeline has completely diverged from ours so I'm having to create all of it myself and only touching on the real-world timeline.

Don't know when the next update will be, but enjoy this one! Oh, and... BUY WAR BONDS!

Update

Updated the striping scheme. I wasn't that happy with the first go. Now it's more like an Air Force/Navy crossbreed. Also started the officers ranks.

Enjoy!

Wow, this is the first time a vector program was actually easier for me. Sorry, enough self congratulation. I really like the rank and I think the direction you went with it is completely correct. However, I think for historical and for reasons of the particular service, you should carry concept forward even more, like this.

Not only is it the original direction of shevrons, the original ^, long long ago, meant male, while the V meant female, and it's an old criticism by femnazis that rockets are too phallic, might as well go with it. If you go back not to long ago, ^ was the original direction of chevrons in armies, which can give a connection to conquest, as in conquest of the stars. Also, an upward facing goes well with the basis in rocketry, it's all about going up, might as well emphasize it.

The stronger point and upward swelling of the base further emphasizes the rocketness and relation to the service's badge. It also serves to further separate it from other service's badges. The bell shape at the bottom represents the bell nozzles of rockets, I stumbled on that last one by accident.

[edit] Damn, I think I got my history completely backwards. In that case, you can ignore much of what I said. LOL [edit2] Nope, I may be right. Anyway, it's up to what you like.
[edit3] So, I finally found something on it, originally they were down, then up and are up now, so, whatever. History of Rank Still, pointier the better but I do get the reference to the badge with the wing effect that you get out of the lower rank insignia as you currently have the rank badges, which is very cool. This'll teach me about having "awesome" ideas late... Well, in the morning.

My slightly improved and famous Enterprise Reference Pack. - 2/6/08

Aethernaut,

Your back story, art and detail are wonderfully original and intricate. I love it! That map is incredible!!!

I know just by your responses you won't but I'm gonna say it anyway. Don't let anyone's political ideology alter the presentation of your concepts. Art afterall is art...

Have you ever read Ministry of Space by Warren Ellis and Chris Weston ? This comic features an alternate timeline from the point of view that the UK got the German rocket scientists out of Germany for their own use instead of the US getting them.

Plot:

The narrative moves back and forth between the last days of World War II, the first few years of the British Space Programme, and the year 2001. The British have captured and relocated to England all the scientists and equipment found in Peenemunde, among them Dr. Wernher von Braun and the plans and pieces of the V-2 rocket bomb. All of this is masterminded by a Royal Air Force officer, John Dashwood, survivor of the Battle of Britain, who manages to convince Winston Churchill to establish the Ministry of Space and fund it with a black budget. The following years see British pilots breaking the sound barrier, building a space station, landing on the Moon, and beyond. The story set in 2001 involves an American attempt to go into space, and their blackmailing of the British government concerning the secrets of the Black Budget that funded the Ministry of Space.

Where are you based ? If you're in the UK then Forbidden Planet would be a good bet or try Amazon.co.uk: low prices in Electronics, Books, Music, DVDs & more or www.play.com http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/6...e/Product.html

or Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more has it listed too.
