| Kirk's First ship - the USS Farragut Of course, we've all heard of her, and that dramatic story of nearly a whole starship crew dying at the hands of a mysterious---something. She is the USS Farragut, the starship on which Kirk first served. But, despite having heard the shocking stories, we've never been able to see her. Although TOS:Remastered might rectify that, I thought I'd show my idea first. Of course, all crits and comments are welcome, as she's a WIP. Here's what I have so far. Right out of the gate, I need some input. These are dorsal views of the Farragut, each with an asthetic twist. Do you prefer option A or option B? They're both similar, but each changes the feel of the lines, mass and balance of the ship. |

| Just in case you wondered what the other views were looking like so far. This will quickly change, of course. I'm imagining her as a hybrid drive system. The extra warp coils on the lower engine assembly demonstrate this. I like the idea, and I'll be more explanatory later. For now, enjoy: |

| SFM Oracle | Looks quite nice for a start. Though I dislike the idea of extra coils in some assembly. This has never been done. Not earlier, not later. |

| I love the Bussard collectors and I think the top view is good. Actually, I like the entire nacelle a lot, but the nacelles seem small for that era. I may be wrong but I think the Constitution's nacelles are pretty huge in comparison to the rest of the ship. I don't like how heavy the ship looks from the front and sides and how rounded the ship is, but it does make sense if this is inspired by the Starfleet Museum page. I'm not liking the wings, extra coils, and dual deflectors. Really it's those extra coils, I'm left wondering where there is room for internal structure so the hull doesn't wave around and so the pylons stay connected. I only mentioned the wings because the side and front views don't seem to match and the ship doesn't really look like it can land. On the deflector, that's just personal preference, I've never been a fan of the dual, side by side, deflector. |

| Looks good so far, Irishman. I love the extra warp coil assembly bit, it's crazy and unique and could certainly be explained away as an experimental but short-lived technology to keep the rabid fanboy canon-botherers at bay. And the odd shapes you've chosen are just fantastic. My only crit really is with the "heaviness" of the ship. Now, the nacelles are perfect and the dorsal view is clean and sleek but the bow, stern, and starboard views all seem a little chunky and clunky in comparison. Maybe streamline the rest a bit and move it toward that clean, sleek, but still more angular look of the TOS Enterprise? But then, that's just my take. ![]() I like seeing other people take these ships with vague or no established on-screen canon and flesh them out. I'm working on the Daedalus right now. Like the Farragut, there's vague references and "fan canon" (Sisko's Horizon model which is never explicitly stated on screen as being a Daedalus class vessel) of what it might have looked like but nothing solid. I'm extrapolating what I think Jefferies probably would have done with the shape from his sketches and adding a whole lot of 22nd century feel to it (commissioned 2161). Yours is fun too! |

| The Farragut was constitution class, we say it in "The Ultimate Computer" if memory recalls correctly. But it's an interesting cruiser design none the less. |
| Current WIPS: None 'cause I'm a lazy bastard. "With 5,000,000 models being destroyed a week, who's going to miss another one?" | |

Now, can we clear the geek stench from the room and let Irishman continue his awesome design? | |

| The Farragut has been a Constitution-class for so long in fandom, it's hard to think of the ship as being a member of any other class. It's a wonderful design Irishman, I just think that she needs a different name. The Republic has an NCC-1371, from the Star Fleet Technical Manual, which is in the 1300 range of your drawing. Kirk did serve as an ensign aboard Republic with Ben Phinney. (TOS "Court Martial") On the Farragut, Kirk was a Lieutenant on his first "deep space assignment" as navigator, so the Republic would be Kirk's first ship. |

| Postscipt I prefer Option B, to Option A. Option B looks much more streamlined. I like the dual Deflector dishes in the design rather than a Deflector dish in the center on a "stick". The dual Deflector dishes also make it seem like this design is an ancestor of the Bradbury-class design shown on the Advanced Starship Design Bureau website. |
