2d Starship Schematics

Have been working on several schematics and I thought let's post them for advise and critics even though this one is basically done.

This is a Enterprise NX era starship called the Guardsman Class Heavy Destroyer. Armed like a regular destroyer it has the added bonus of having a dual shuttle launch bay and heavier hull protection. Used to patrol the borders and protecting the first steps of Mankind further into space.

Currently working on a 'frigate' sized ship in this era. Will post that one later.

Sharp, clean drawing. I like the direction of the design though it seems a little squat. Perhaps if the saucer were wider... like beyond the nacelles in diameter? And maybe lengthen the nacelles a bit?

I like it. It is a bit 'compact' but seems to fit for how you have described it. My only crit is the wafer thin pylons feeding the nacelles. Even the ones on Enterprise's Enterprise are thicker. You need to allow for the transfer fuel into the nacelle and structural consideration.

That which does not kill me only postpones the inevitable!

Have to agree with both your comments. Thanks for pointing those things out. The fins are way to thin not to mention the nacelles. So quickly made some alterations. Its not yet fully completed but its a start will fine tune it in the next couple of days. Also noted I forgot a docking ring.

Also wanted to add a more of a long run project of mine which is at a stand still at the moment, work other projects. A Victory star destroyer. Was planning to make a 3d model to learn some more about 3d modelling but couldn't find any good schematics so started to make one my self while looking at the images i could find for reference (star wars empire at war)

Added the Heavy Destroyer in a thumbnail since it was a little to big.

I really like the Guardsman, are you planning to add color and textures to it?

I'm bbzwbbzw, and I approved this message.

Haven't really thought much about colouring it... haven't done that much lately. But perhaps it is a interesting idea since it might actually be modelled in a mod I'm helping with a little.

Nice color job! Makes the line drawing look much more finished.

You might want to adjust the highlights on the shiny/glassy bits of the nacelles. In any of the above orthographics where both are visible you've got the highlights showing up opposite each other. Like there are two light sources on the objects.

You're right Aethernaut... will take a look at those highlights and make them work somehow.

Currently trying out several quick sketches of 'modern' starfleet ships to help some friends. These are only some quick doodles but at least give a general idea of the shapes and sizes they eventually will become.

These sketches are good, really good.. My concept sketches used to be that good, over the years I've lost some of my talent when it comes to that.. Cheers!
