| Need help with romulan soldier Hey guys, I'm drawing a romulan soldier from an episode of TOS I saw years ago.. It's not exact, but I'd like help on skin tone, facial detail and what ever else to get him to look right, and it's only shoulders up for this one.. |

| I wish I could offer some sort of help Soran77 but you are a braver man than I tackling realistic skin tones in a vector based program. The only advice I can give is spend a lot of time studying faces and how light and shadow look on skin and try to duplicate the look as much as possible. That's generally how I try new techniques. You also might want to set this work aside and try a couple of small side projects first to practice developing a technique that works. I watched a former workmate do a vector illustration of a face one time. She used a photo as a model. It took her days to get the skin tones and shadows right but it looked awesome when it was done. |

| Thank you Aethernaut, I think I will set this one aside for a while.. I'd really like to be able to do it right, I have seen a vector portait also and it looked really good, also I have seen a motorcycle done completely in vector that looked as good (or better) than a 3d rendering. I wanna get "that good" I play with 3D but 2D is what i love.. |

| Learn how to make your own vectorportraits | Vectorportraits.com very useful. I used their technique with my current project, it's turning out quite nicely, you should give it a try. |

I also think the picture of your nephew is a very difficult piece to work on,; their is very little gradation between light and dark which makes it hard to work on with vectors. Vectors are hard to work with but I bet you will do fine! | |
