| SFM Nugget | There's some cool stuff there Atolm. I like how the Romulan command variant of the d7 has a bit of the bird of prey body mixed in. The Irwin has an Andorian feel to it. I really like that little sketch of the Federation ship in the lower right corner of the Trident class pic. It has a small Defiant class feel, without being one of those bad TOS versions of a Defiant class designs. I'd like to see some more of that one possibly. |

You have some great design ideas in there for ships. Some others I'm not too crazy over but most of them are neat. Are you going to make a cleaner drawing of any?

You know, I'd just love to see the new ST movie featuring some of your designs. They're bold, and interesting, and new, even when referencing older designs. Instead we're probably going to get slightly reworked rehashes of old designs. Boring.

You know, I if I could figure out how the hell to model that Romulan D7's head, I'd beg you to let me build her. But... considering you actually do a damned good job of building stuff yourself, why don't you try? I love both the TNG Romulan D7 and the Romulan late TMP era ship nearly made me wet myself. The picture in the top left corner of that later sheet is fantastically sexy.

No - I don't like the neck but I love the nacelle on the right. The nacelle flairs too much in the back section in the top view, maybe if it flairs sooner and has a narrower head? Yes - Although I would like to see it with straight, horizontal impulse engine pylons and spherical impulse enignes with the flaring inward rectangular exhaust. No - I really just don't like it. Starfleet designs aren't the most structurally sound but that just seems redundant. I love the lower hull a hell of a lot, less width on the torpedo tubes flairs though, it looks like a wig. I also like that you were thinking about rear facing phasers but I don't think placing them pretty much on the impulse engine is the best, I would think there would be a lack of room and if either one is targeted, both are targeted. I like the lower right ship. Yes - I'm not a fan of triple nacelles but that's just an awesome execution of the idea and of the Federation Class. I have to say, though the lower pylon position looks good, it wouldn't be structurally sound since you have a full length hanger deck there. It would be better to mount the pylons to the lower part of the hull. That brings up the same problem for the neck connecting to the hull sections together. Either it needs two forward doors, so the neck can go through without it being a surprise inside the deck for landing craft or the deck should be at the bottom of the hull with the deflector above. Of course, that requires a complete redesign, so it's grat the way it is. The lower right stuff looks great for Klingons, I don't know about the fins though.Yes - Why couldn't they just buy them and reverse engineer them? The top one is really good looking and the bottom one might have better wing details. Yes - Very much yes to it but I think it should keep more Klingony in the nacelles. Interestingly enough, in Enterprise, the Klingons and Romulans had pretty similar nacelles, the difference was that the Romulan nacelles were more dynamic and blended. So, more dynamic and blended Klingon D7 nacelle? Also, instead of a big hole in the bow, maybe a smaller tube such as what the Warbird has would be good. Yes - I like the use of cigar nacelles. Come on, big ass bow phasers weren't used in D7's until DS9. Give it an improved plasma torpedo, TOS style. If this is TMP era, then maybe start introducing TNG era Warbird style disruptor bumps. Yes - I like the simple, strong brow look it gives the bow. No - I like like the pod and that is what the picture is about. I do like the use of the Warbird details though, that makes sense to me but it doesn't make sense to me to make it rounded like a second ship. At the same time, I like the size. I like the idea of round nacelles, rather than more rectangular ones. In TOS the Romulans ship used huge cigar shaped nacelles like the Constitution class, in fact the Romluan nacelles were almost as large as the Constitution's, yet the Constitution is probably about double the volume. Take the nacelle to hull ratio and apply that to the D7 and it will have huge nacelles. If you go with an idea of Romulan technology being less advanced, then it makes sense. Yes Yes
