Soran77: Looking good so far, my friend. If you can figure out an interesting way to attach the neck to the sphere, go wild -- I haven't really figured a satisfactory way of joining the two yet.

Did a more detailed sketch of the deflector/sensor module:

I'm learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator, and hopefully I'll have a more schematic-y pic of my Daedalus soon. Of course, now that I've said that, it's gonna take me 5 weeks to learn the basics, and there will be much banging of head on table. You know how it is.

It's really interesting and I like the design A LOT! Particularly that secondary hull. Talk about flying in the face of canon, especially for a post-ENT starship! I don't think it's really suited to Trek though. I like the Matt Jefferies design philosophy for TOS a of mostly smooth outer hull with all the maintenance done in crawl ways within the ship. For me, your design definitely works as a pathfinder study of the Daedalus or an alternate Trek timeline where FTL travel was developed much earlier.

You can disregard my 2 cents now.

Aethernaut: Dude! I LOVE your Daedalus!

OK, got that out of the way.

Yes, this is definately a "canon, shmanon" project. I was thinking of alternatively caling it "Daedalus testbed" or "NASA Daedalus".

Nice sketches! My opinions are pretty much in line with Aethernaut's. Although it does kinda look like it could be from a few years beyond Clarke's 2001.

I really wouldn't say stuff like that around here. If you're looking for an alternative that you don't have to acquire, take a look at Inkscape, which is a free open-source vector graphics software package.

Great ship dude The design somehow reminds me of the Enterprise ships and that's a good thing because I just love all of them Oh and if you want a good 2D program , you can use Inkscape - I have it and it's really great. Anyway, keep up the good job ! I can't wait to see more of the 3D model.

Fitter, Happier And More Productive ...

Thanks! I'm actually trying to finish up that interior iso of the bridge now. I'll post it at some point close to done.

Gotcha. I definitely like the "NASA Daedalus" mainly because I'd love to see NASA markings all over it.

And hear hear to canon schmanon! It's fun to say and fun to do.
