Very early Star Trek scribble-turned sketch This is how I got the idea for my current 3D project, one which I've actually scribbled in advance for a change, the mission patch for which I scrawled later and which makes up the first pic below. I was bored at work, so I started to scribble on a bit of spare paper. The swirls I'd drawn suggested something to me, so a bit more scribbling elsewhere on the same bit of paper gave me a surprisingly coherent looking very-early-tech Star Trek starship (second pic), which I named the Bonaventure. I decided that the back end would look better as two projecting booms rather than a solid hull, so I did a new top view (third pic) and then two side-rear views (fourth and fifth pics).

The impulse engines looked a bit dull, so I came up with a new look for them (sixth pic) and developed the look further in the seventh pic, on a scrap of paper I also used to develop the look of the ship's mission patch logo, which I intended to strongly suggest that the classic TOS Enterprise/Starfleet logo evolved from. While I was doing all this, I worked on a bit of backstory, conveniently forgetting the entire series "Enterprise". The Bonaventure was the first human starship with a Warp 2 drive, the six-man crew of which spent its days charting the local group of stars around the Solar System. As force field technology was still in its infancy, the ship relies on powerful laser cannon to sweep interstellar debris from the ship's path, and thick frontal armour to deflect particles too large to destroy with lasers (hence, also, no front-facing windows). I wanted the technology to be very "raw" looking, with a contrast between the armoured plates on the front of the ship to the exposed structural members and components elsewhere. When time permits I'm going to start building this in Maya. Any suggestions? Comments? Criticism? Please be gentle on me when it comes to my drawing skills lol

| SFM Guru | I think that patch of yours is pretty damn clever!! Curious to see if it gets made into a Adobe Illustrator or Corel draw made picture!! |

Thanks. 2D illustration isn't my forte, so if anyone would like to do the mission patch properly, please feel free to do so. In fact, anyone who wants to model the ship is welcome to do so as well. The more the merrier! By the way, the motto, Quinon proficit, deficit means If you don't move forwards, you move backwards.

Great work so far, I really like the early Trek stuff, and your ideas are well thought out. Maybe add a bit more detail to the underside of the booms? And I really like the patch.
