The Armstrong Class: WIP

I recently responded to a request by a fellow member on TrekBBS.com for help designing a starship for a fan project. Wanting to complete a design project instead of letting my own just fall by the wayside, I figured this would give me some motivation to actually *finish* something. I'm a bit busy with work and my graphic design work at school but this kind of thing can keep me sane while sharpening my skills a bit.

Anyway, to the WIP images. Below is a combination of the first outline that I was originally sent as a guide, my initial overlay sketch and then my initial digital blocking in of shapes and minor details. In other words, this is all in the very initial stages where only the very basic shape is known.

I apparently got a little too sleek with it and the "client" wanted a little blockier look, closer to the original silhouette. So I tried a slight variation of the secondary hull.

I haven't heard any word about whether or not this is accepted or not so there may be some more changes of the basic layout. I prefer the first rendition, but I also want the guy to get what he's got in his head. He's shooting for a 2390's quantum slipstream-powered cruiser.

Any comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

Hm. I'd also alter the nacelles a bit.

Nice start though.

Yeah it looks very good but the nacelles are a bit too thick in the middle part. Maybe make them thicker at the front and then make them taper to the end...

Fitter, Happier And More Productive ...

If the nacelles were lower, that would help a lot without changing their shape. They have a cool design, I like the covered grill style with the light leaking out the edge.

If you bring the keel forward, that will help bring back some of the dynamic flow of the previous lower hull.

It's a good looking design with some refreshing originality, although a bit bird like.
