You have to remember the scale here, these engines are huge, over a couple thousand feet long. They would have massive structural bracing just to absorb the thrust from the engines, which would far surpass the recoil from the guns. Also, the later turrets on Pegasus, and by extension on Prometheus, don't seem to have the prominent cockpit that the ones on Galactica have, so they may be unmanned.

I'm sorry but I don't buy the Explanation of the guns it's lazy!
It could work if you placed a surface platform that removed the guns from the engine surface, this way it would not become a hazard if the the munitions were hit and started to explode in the magazines!
Your in a hostile environment (SPACE) and you put potentially destructive munitions on the surface of the engine housing that's a fighter or enemy vessel can potentially hit and detonate the munitions inside?
Like my aunt who is the refit adviser (a NAVY CAPTAIN) at GREAT LAKES BASE says "Great Story" poor vessel (nice 3D model though) designing but nice try!
Infinity heres some helpful advise I received when she saw the ship!
1) Platforms on your engines, as stated earlier to prevent exploding ordnance, should a vessel or fighter get a lucky strike in!
2) As I stated on an earlier post LINE of site for 360^ coverage with at least 20% of your "total fire power" and it looks like you got that right now!
3) it not the damage done generally that destroys the ship but it's lack of protection of ordnance magazines, More ships have been destroyed in combat from detonations of ordnance from inside the vessel then from "Hard Surface Strikes" her word not mine!
4) BUNT FORCE TRAUMA , during WW2 when IOWA class BATTLE SHIP was being designed and the idea was to be able to deliver enough damage to cause termination of the enemy force!
In short 10 volleys could do the job but why not deliver the fatal blow on your first volley!
Nothing personal folks just a little nit picking but as my aunt say it's the Nit picking that get perfection!
I hope that helps, and if you think that was bad you should here what the woman has to say about the GALATICA & Pegasus designs she can't even watch the show because of the poor engineering designs!
And LORD help you if she ever gets started on STAR TREK SHIPS!
She quite literally took the ship apart explaining what was wrong with the design, and I would not have mined but it DURING THE SHOW AAaaahhhhh!
