I posted a reply to that texture a while back, but it does not seem to be here, oh well, I'll try to remember what I said.....
I felt the texture looked a little too like the plane is covered with fabric - I once owned a pair of trousers with a similar texture.
I feel the plane would either have smooth panels with panel joins if it was made of titanium (for heat resistance) or have ablaitive armour - in which case it would have a somewhat ceramic texture.
The engine section, and around the engine section, I feel should be affected by heat, perhaps blued or purpled metal.
and the lines in the current texture should not criss-cross, but rather all be in the one alignment, like they were scarring from micro-meteoroids.
Don't worry about the ship's colour too much, as generally to a fighter, colour is less important than luminescience and reflectivity - particularly in space, where the mercury and gemini capsules were both black, but when seen from orbit were first spotted by other astonaughts from a distance as star-like points of light.
It is important to remember the future setting of the story - To be honest, if you look at how much fighters have changed in the last 50 years, there is every possibility that this design is actually *not modern enough*, who can tell what the next 150 years will bring?
