Wow! Thanks for all the responses folks!
BolianAdmiral – Cheers! This image was partially inspired from all the trek books I used to buy. I loved the painted artwork. I certainly wouldn’t mind getting into illustrating book covers at some point ^___^
Enigma X – Haha, yeah I think you could spend a lifetime pouring through all the trek art out there…one more for the fire! :P Glad you dig it, I played with the composition to make the ‘whale’ ships overly dominating, helping to emphasise the huge difference in size.
IRML – I’m glad people are interpreting this differently. I wanted to keep it a little ambiguous so the viewer could make up their own narrative. Thanks again!
Darkness – Hey man, cheers! I approve of your avatar. ;P
Firelode – Hey dude, how’s it going? Yeah it’s been quite a while I guess, but the really scary thing is, that it doesn’t really seem like that long ago I was last here! It’s all these short deadlines making time fly! Thanks for the kind words!
Deg3d – Cheers man! I wanted to keep the painting style in line with the trek books of old as for the concept…well Prog Rock dictated that I draw giant space whales. Where Prog goes, I follow ;P
JeffrySG – Thank you very much! I’m chuffed to be on the header it has to be said
Mr Wilde – HAHA…subliminal maybe? :P You should have seen the other faces it had before I changed the details!
Dannage – Hey man…crikey, smarvelous; there’s a word I haven’t heard in a while! Yeah it’s certainly been a while, concept art has certainly kept me away from the forums for a while. I’ll have to post up the transformers piece when I get a moment to finish it. It’s based around the movie designs featuring Prime, Arcee and ‘some other one’..i dunno the name…but he’s a Decepticon of some sort.
You have a tablet eh? Get using it man! Get yourself a copy of Photoshop CS3 and get stuck in! Simple brushes are all you need.
Hint of the week: Flow control is more important than it might look…in Photoshop that is HOHOHO *sigh* It’s much overlooked, but the lower you have it, the easier it is to blend. Obviously it’s horses for courses, but if you’re blending, a flow setting of 19% or less will make your life easier imo.
Yeah best your partner and I don’t meet up; it’s like the Lynx Effect, but with fewer catalogue haircuts and more paint brushes. Later dude!
Gpdesigner – Thanks man! I’m trying to inject more narrative into my paintings these days, I enjoy opening a piece up to different interpretations. The space humpback may actually make a come back, though I suspect it’ll be in a non trek piece so I can make more use of the piece
Ramiel – Thank you very much! It was a lot of fun to do this piece and certainly reminded me that I need to get more space opera done this year!
Shadowblade – LOL! That’s very true man, I like the way you think. Speak softly and carry a big probe.
