According to Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, there are two types of self-destruct for this Enterprise. Destruct 1 bring all the matter/anti-matter together in one big explosion that must be done clear of planetary bodies. I assume this is what Kirk would have ordered in TMP when he wanted to destroy V'Ger. There's also destruct 1A. This causes placed charges to detonate to cripple the ship, and at the last moment the computer chooses a course that will destory the vessel, either into a sun or planet's atomosphere.

cheers all! oh Andrew, going to have to wait a month or so for the wire frame renders the 3D file is on my computer in New York not on my laptop here in England!
