Going Boldly

Here's a quick render I did, using evil genius's USS Enterprise mesh.

This is my first image worthy of public display. Let me know what you think of it. Any and all comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

It's a good start ghall but the composition is a bit wrong, it looks more like an animation frame than an image! perhaps if you get the whole enterprise mesh in shot or choose a more interesting angle?

How's this? Same scene, just the lighting and angle adjusted (which makes it a completely different scene I guess).

Umm ... Should you move a bit more far the camera to avoid that the ship be cutted in the edges ?

Argh! I'm such a noob at this. See, I'm coming from a background in animation, this is really the first time I've tried doing still shots.

Well, I pulled out the camera, and I also made some small changes to the lighting.

Much better
Well in animation there still is that one beauty shot, it might help you to set up an animation path for the ship and several different cameras and do a quick play through the timeline, watching through each camera, to see if any interesting or wow shots come up!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that sometime.

Thanks everyone for your input. It was really helpful.

You could use some more anti-aliasing to smooth the edges, especially on the last 2, but it's a good start.

Okay, I fixed up the anti-aliasing. Also, I thought that the image was a bit dull, so I added a red planet (my own creation), and put the Enterprise on more of an angle to make it seem a bit more natural.

Looks good. The anti-aliasing helps a lot. You say you're a noob, how long have you been working in 3D?
