Someone to trust...

Hello!

This is my first contribution to this forum.

A few weeks ago i decided to model a Viper Mk. VII for my own enjoyment....and here it is. The Model and the Scene was made with Cinema4D and Corel Photo Paint.

All in all i am not really happy with the surface structure of the Viper model but i will work on it.

Hope you like this picture. It is called "Someone to trust"

The lensflare seems a bit off...it almost looks like the night side of a nearby planet.

I don't know about the Viper mk. VII or what 'universe' they're from. (They're from Battle Star Galatica, right?) But I do think the shadows on them are very well made.

Jacob

Oh yeah, sorry about that bad attitude from my part: Welcome to the SFM forums!

Well, firstly let me say welcome to SFM!

It's a nice image, and a great first attempt at modelling and rendering this sort of thing. I agree that the surfacing of the Vipers does seem slightly off- I don't think it's something you've done, as opposed to some things you haven't done. I'm no texturing expert, but it looks to me like they're missing a bit of contrast and specularity- it would probably be a help for the texturing bods here if you could post a shot of the Viper model under flat lighting without the background.

The other thing I picked up on straight away is that the lighting- especially on the right-most Viper, doesn't match the lighting on the background image- according to the Sun position, you shouldn't be seeing any strong lighting on the (pilot's) left of the second Viper.

The last thing I'll mention doesn't really have anything to do with your image as such, but it does concern it. It's a rule here at SFM that all work posted to the Gallery sections of the site have to have credits on them, to identify the person who put the work in- in this case that would be you. We enforce this rule mainly to protect the authors from having their work downloaded and displayed or used at other sites where they have not given their permission- it's a sad fact, but it does happen. Requiring credit for the artists involved in the images is our way of trying to combat people taking the kudos for work that isn't theirs. How you add the credits is up to yourself, but you will need to add them.

Again, welcome to SFM- I hope you enjoy the forums, and if you need any clarification on anything to do with the site then don't hesitate to ask either myself or any of the other Staff. You can find a list at the bottom of the Forums home page- "View Forum Leaders".

All you mods, making people work work work! Put credits on this, dont download that etc. you sound just like my mother!

@Carnivor: Welcome to SFM bro, i hope you enjoy your stay!

I would appreciate it if you would post in the WIP section the "making of" for your vipers. some of the noobs would no doubt benefit from your process, and you may pick up a few pointers from some of the vets here.

Nice start, but i think all the crits have already been said.
and if people ask you for higher resolution renders (and they will, once you bring this one up to "stunning" ) you may just wanna listen

"We apologize for the inconvenience.....please continue to hold, and a representative will be with you shortly....."

Yes you are right, but with correct lighting you would see almost nothing
