Talking FDC-307: My Scifi-Meshes Shakedown

Well howdy folks,

This'll be my very first gallery entry here at Scifi-Meshes! I must say I'm very impressed by the work I've seen thus far, so I'm a bit hesitating to post my own stuff...

I finished the FDC-307 last year. It was my first attempt to do a 3D model in Sketchup. Hope you like it. Comments appreciated

good work, the ship looks just great. Some very serious weaponry heh.

I can't help but wonder how this would look like if fully textured and rendered in a more advanced app

It's a very nicely designed and modeled ship, certainly something to be proud of. I agree with Berkut, you ought to try out some of the more advanced free 3D programs, you'll get nicer looking renders.

It's a very cool design. Personally, since it has what looks like thrusters, I would like to see more thrusters in all the right places for full maneuverability instead of just lateral movement. That means turning left, right, up down, and sliding left, right, up down, forward, backward. That's right, it should have forward and backward thrusters too even though it has the big engines.

The rear guns don't sit well with me because the same section also has the engines connected to it on pylons. That section will have a lot of structural stress. The turrets are also going to have to penetrate the hull several decks for proper bracing, even if they are purely energy but especially if they fire a round of some sort.

My slightly improved and famous Enterprise Reference Pack. - 2/6/08

well if its any sort of energy weapon it would have no recoil, and I think a magnetically powered projectile weapon could have very little if any recoil

I'd guess you failed physics if you believe that!

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction! even if it is magnetically boosted, the force acting on the projectile also acts in the opposite direction on the gun & on the ship too. A magnetic railgun will still kick!

Welcome on board!
That's an impressive mesh! Sketch up? Looks fine!
The rendering shows a clean modeling. Well executed.
