The Falcon leaving the nest ...

Gentlemen.

"It has been a while." The last few times a posted something in this section that was the sentence I started with, in one form or another. And, again, it is what fits best - because it really has been a while again.

My last topic here dates back to December 2007. Before that it was several months, before that some more months and so on. So to make this short - I haven't done much in Lightwave for ages. My study has pretty much taken over - and the free time I have I use for doing absolutely nothing at all or photography.

Now, anyways. Alain was kind enough to let me have his Falcon when he had finished it. And, being the disloyal asshole I am it took me ... what, a year? Two years? But now I felt the urge for some 3d shizzle ... and the Falcon was my victim.

I didn't do anything for ages so ffs - be gentle, I know it has it's flaws ... Seriously though, it was fun. So maybe I can finally get my lazy ass back to doing this more often again...

Comes in two sizes. Gaylord (small) and Hoff. (Big, obviously).

Hoff 1385x1914

Gaylord 741x1024

That's it.

Very nice.

Funnily enough, it looks like you took a photo of a real model and just photoshopped it over the background. Can't say why though.

Born to be Wilde. And to be the slowest modeller in this galaxy.

The lighting seems off for me, as if the planet and the falcon were illuminated by different sources, and if the top of the falcon is meant to be illuminated by the explosion or star behind, I would expect shaper, darker and longer shadows from that angle.

yep, the lighting could need some work and you should add some motion blur to the Falcon imo.
But the pic itself is very cool!!

Yeah, sure. I want to show the Falcon and then motion blur all the nice details right out again ...

That's no star but a city on the planet, it just seems really bright for that kind of point source.

I like it though if the cities lights weren't tilted such that they over lapped the falcon it might be better.

Yay, Star Wars!

i think not all images need motion blur, as it really only kills the details in an image like this. Let's say it was shot with a very fast camera.

And Darkness, how did you do that background nebula?
