Faith Endures

Hello everyone,

Its been a long time since I posted anything in here and here it isn't even a classic sci-fi themed picture. I refer you to Orson Scott Card's description of what is sci-fi for that one.

At any rate, here it is:

One of my favourite series of books is the Sword of Truth books. Those who have read "Faith of the Fallen" will probably know that this statue represents the indomitable human spirit.

In that same theme, here is a 3D recreation of that statue. Here, too, it remains even against age and weather.

In the book it was the centerpeice of a sundial. I used the late Keith Parkinson's book cover image as a reference. While I have done human figures by hand using nothing but the 3DS Max tools it is very painful. I feel I've done my time doing it the "hard way". Therefore, these figures are made using DAZ Studio. They were altered then posed then imported into 3DS Max to be textured and arranged.

I will note that some people believe that using DAZ Studio or Poser somehow makes the entire piece of work "not art". I do not share that opinon. It is similar to claiming an beautiful piece of furniture is somehow lesser because the builder used a lathe on the legs instead of hand carving them.

Enjoy.

Interesting.

I haven't read either of these stories you have mentioned, yet I have to add that this scenery could also fit into BSG. Some temple on Kobol...

It's sweet, no question.

See the Shadows of Darkness, Hear the Scream of Cruelty...

That's why I've became a Warrior of Heart, Defend the one you like, Guard the one you love...

I like the scene...I definitely loved the books, though it was a bit cheesy how it ended....

anyway...

I always thought the statues were maybe twice human size, but the scale on these looks like it's about 10x human size....scale it down a bit, and it'll be a great recreation of the scene...right before the Lord Rahl...well, no spoilers, right?

Nice, I like the setup

But...I think the image could be improved a lot if you added a skylight, and turned on Light Tracer/Final gather (former is scanline, latter mental ray).

Also the materials look a little dull. Why not use a marble texture on them, something like this?
