Akula Closeup

I did a little more detailing on this model recently, mostly on and around the main turret but also added some more "trim" detail around transitions in the hull.

I also re-scaled it, before it was 300m long, now it's 200, I've added a few astronauts wandering around the deck for scale references. The guy who's usually out there doing pushups has now been deleted, sorry lars.

Oooooh very nice.

I have a few questions.
1) can we get a closer look at the astronaut? Is that Natasha?
2) are those red things the space equivalent of life preservers? If so how do they work?
3) why so much bloom?
4) why are the landing gears down?
5) how do you make it look so awesome? J/K Already know that one.

More more!!

1, check the attachment, its a simple low poly astronaut i built a while ago, haven't yet showed them here though. The Female is derived from Natasha, with the control data removed, the male is just a butching up and re-texturing of the female. Those models are going into orbiter at some point and you'll be able to fly them around in with their turbopacks.

2, yes they're self propelled lifesavers. if a crewman falls off the deck, possibly due to being drunk from the vodka in the vending machine (it's still there) then he or she can activate an emergency beacon on their suit and one of these can be launched off the deck to rescue them.

3, Well it's more bloom than i'd normally use and it's a tad over-exposed but I thought it looked nice... Bit like a couple of frames in a flypast and the sun, deck and camera are in just the right place to get a moment of over-exposure and flare before it dies down as the bridge structure cuts infront. Thats my story anyway... It also helped to soften the harsh shadowing.

4, didn't think anyone would notice what they were... just adds extra interest to the image

5, By eating all my vegetables and sleeping 18 hours a day.

Rich, yep he's long gone. His vending machine is still there though.

Asz, I'd really like to use that planet of yours with this mesh. tell you what, i'll swap you an akula for a Mars, I lost mine ages ago. Let me know what you think, PM me or whatever if you're interested

Very Nice Steve.

If Dr Asz, give you his current build mars. I know you could do a total kick ass pic!

Btw the where in the vending machine? it's not where I last saw it.
