| Consider the possibility that the dead tree required a lot of water and perhaps had a drought whereas the vines, like vines here on Earth, can start in a crack on a brick building and take over the entire facade and they don't get much water at all in those locations and a vine can grow to enormous lengths which is why cities quite often have to remove the vines from buildings to keep the building intact. The sheer weight and invasive root systems can tear a building apart. |
