Other than the colour shift, your pic looks very good. It might be boring, but it's a test and it works, so it doesn't need to have an exciting composition with sex and explosions and strong language.

How exactly is that done? It can't just be shifting the colour channels? however it's done, it's very effective. I'd love to try that on a few of my renders.

it involves several duplicated layers, levels adjustments, blurs, blending (as in layer blending modes), and the channel shift
at least that's what I remember

1. open Photoshop
2. open a rendering of yours
3. click on windows -> actions -> click on the little triangle (upper right of the window)
4. load actions -> select Chrom_Aberration.atn (which you downloaded from here)
5. click on Lens Aberrations: Normal and then play.
6. now sit down and watch

next part tomorrow

ps.: i hope the action script works, cause im using the german version of photoshop cs

Is this thing doable with Photoshop v.6? And what is this channel shift you speak of?

I'll see if it works in 7, as long as none of the effects are native to CS, then it should do. Thanks.

Feel free to post the tut here! (Post it also in the "Member Tutorial" section, so it's more visible for the other viewers )
And thanks for your comment about the site (it should be updated in the next months, because it's quite old now... )

@ The B5 Fan:
should be working on all photoshop versions (> v.5)
channel shift is another expression for "chromatic aberration"
Chromatic aberration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i try to reproduce this effect, since normal renders can't do this. with some other touch ups you can create more realistic looking images

@ Ramiel
i'm looking forward to the update, i really like your style. a bit cartoonish...but that is, what i like

sorry for bad english, was shooting on our new canon xl-h1 for the last few hours, im tired..

I think those images are my original LW work and not the MAX conversion

Gaah that lil' banner at the top was nagging me about not posting in too long a time. So here it goes...

Sounds like what Blumenkohl used to do for a while a long time ago.

The trick to getting this to actually look real is to have the distortion most visible 1) at the edges of the image 2) at the highest contrast areas.
