| Newbie Program Advice Hi everyone, I am new to this and I am interested in getting into the animation and 3D scene world. I am here to ask which freeware program would be the best to learn on? Right now I am not looking to making the models but for getting up 3D scenes and eventually 3D animations. Reason I am looking for a freeware program is that I want to see if I can actually do it before going out and spending the money of an expensive program like 3D Max. So if any of you could give me any advice I would really appreciate it. |

| Project Lead on SFM Film | ^ But it you don’t want to try that the always Blender at blender.org which is totally free. There are lot of tut out there for Blender and lot of the good one are here. You can find Sphinx tut in the dojo and I have a tut on how to do a simple animation in Blender, in the members tut area. (I should really get round to adding the pic to that and finished writing the other two parts. But the first part can be done in a standalone.) Which ever application you decide to go with, the are lot of members here that use the main one Max, lightwave, Turespace, and Blender. They are always willing to help someone out if there get stuck. |

| I think Majestic would have a problem with Blender on this one. While I'd always push Blender, Majestic seems to be implying that he only (currently) wants it for scene building - in which case, getting the meshes may be more of an issue than LW or Max. Long term however, I'd agree. If you want something free to see whether you like it / can do it, Blender would be a good option - especially with 2.44 / .45. |

| Yeah, I'd go with Blender and see how you like it. Any techniques you learn you can always take with you if you move to another app. later on. And Wings3d is very nice for Subdivision Modeling as well... both free... cheers! Jeff |
