Hey guys im having trouble with something in cinema 4D. I've made a basic shape of a ship, and was wanting to put some textures on it just to see what i would look like. I made the ship by using the linear splice tool to create an outline of the left and right side of the ship then used the Loft NURBS tool to create the shape, but when i go to apply a texture to the whole thing it misses the left and right sides of the ship. Is there anyway to fix this problem? i hope you guys know what i mean thanks JoScoRo

Well, more details would be interesting. Or even an image. I don't understand the left/right problem. But i can tell you that the uv's of the loft won't be very good in most cases (mainly because they won't take into acount the distance between the splines which results in local stretching). You have more control by suing several planar projected materials. Depending on your shape, you might even be able to get good results using a spherical or cylindrical projection. Another option would be to use BP3D if your version includes it. But this makes mainly sense for organic textures. cheers, Chris

Hey sorry i was suppose to put pictures up i did in another post i made and just forgot with this one. as you can see the model is fine the only issue im having is that its only applying texture to the top of the ship and ignoring the sides (the top half of the ship is where im having my problem it's one model created using linear splice tool and loft nurbs) i havn't really got any idea how to explain my problem so hopefully the image helps with that.

ok, i was able to reproduce the problem but i am quite surprised. The caps of the Loft (what you named sides) have no uv textures. Thats why the texture (that uses uv per default) won't be aplied to them. You simply have to copy the material tag, change the projection to "plane", set selection to "C1" and rotate the material until the projection fits the side. Repeat this and change the selction of the third material tag to "C2". I am quite surprised. I didn't work with cinema for some time, but i was sure that the caps had uv-coords too :-/ hope this hepls, Chris

| SFM Guru | Surely the simplest thing to do is finish any edits on the Loft NURBS, then Make Object Editable so that it's no longer a NURBS object. Then connect the two caps (the sides) and center piece using Connect Object. Then the whole thing will be one solid model and the texture should apply in the normal manner. |
