Need some opinions on how to model this..

Hi,

I'm having huge problems getting the shapes right on this one.
So I'm asking if anyone can advise me how to approach this.

(as you can see on my various results I'm not that good at modeling these kind of things. I do this kind of modeling trying my way with chamfered cylinders and such..)

The two approaches I see to this would be an organic type approach using SubD or perhaps you might find it easier to work on it in much the same way as it was built. One piece at a time put in place and then welded together.

Ok, hm the organic app. is probably the hardest for me. But the other way to go was somewhat what I started off with and is still working after I guess, but I dont know why I cant get it. I'm thinking I've maybe gottn the pieces divided wrong if you understand me.

This is so ticking me off because I've set the standard (in my head) enough high to settle with something I'm not that pleased with.

I'd start with those shapes you've already built, except leave the chamfering, boolean them together to form the main shape. Then clean up the geometry and add control information by cutting in extra lines to control the curves so that you can use a subdivision system like ozy suggested as one of your options. if you go the subdivision route you may want to 'freeze' the mesh at some point so you lose the control cage and are left with the higher density subdivided mesh that you can cut detail into or add panels, etc. extra details can generally be modelled individually or put into the cage if required.

Alright, here's what I got to show after a couple of hours of retrys, fits and tantrums.. I really tried hard this time, to model this thing from just a plane and then finally turbosmooth it. I'm quite happy with the result eventhough I know its not that spot on.
Thanks for your help and gining me the nudge I needed

Glad it worked out. And remember, you can model anything you put your mind too. It is just a matter of how much time you want to put into it.

Yea me too! It just felt like I was stuck, since I've never succeeded with this kind of modeling before. But then I tred and really put my mind into it.
It feels like the rest of the modeling will be no hazzle now when I completed this obstacle
