Confused 2D to 3D question.

Hey guys,

I'm very new to 3D modeling, in fact i have only barely done the basic tutorials for blender. I come from a heavy 2D art background, mostly using Graphics tablet (Wacom Intuos3) in photoshop CS3 for sketches and so on.

My question is... Is there a way for me to use my 2D skills to first draw something 2D and then draw in on different angles to make it 3D or to draw and extrude so that it is more of an easy feel for me?

my 3D skills about match those of the mold growing under your sink... ifs its done the first few tutorials :P

Thank you in advance for any help

Depends on how you want to do this, but there are some apps that might make the transition easier. Mudbox and ZBrush as effectively used as if you were modeling with clay, so are suitable for use with a tablet for example

My random WIP thread which includes some hints and tips on modelling which _may_ be useful for the link above...!

oh very nice, that was the basic idea was to be able to just start with something basic and then draw, rotate, draw some more, adding to it over time.

thanks for the help. ill try the trials of each.

Yeah i did try Google sketch up for abit but i found it hard to make organic looking models, like people or animals, made them look very boxy and un-realistic but perhaps it was just me
