Confused Poser is reversing my 3ds imports

O.k so I created a small mesh in 3dmax 2008-32b (that is the first pic)

The second pic is how it looks when I export it as a 3ds file and import it into poser v7.

So why is it mirrored, and how can I fix it?

Do not know if this could be the error, but when you mirror objects in 3dsmax, export them as 3ds, it will mirror them back to its original form.

Anyhow, how about mirror it in max, export it to 3ds, and try it again.

I could be the normals in max are reversed or something whack. I would do as wjaspers says but collapse the mesh before exporting.

I've tried mirroring and collapsing in Max before exporting, but I get the same result.

I haven't tried messing with the pivot however, I'll try that next.

thanks!

changing the pivots didn't work.

however, exporting to OBJ did work, but I lost all of the materials...

The material IDs remained, which was a relief, so I was able to restore the colors

thanks again!

odd maybe some setting whilst saving to 3ds. One of the things i hate about 3d is all the conflicting formats and little annoyances like this. I have found often 3ds from max wont open in all apps and visa versa. Then there's the annoying triangulation some of the older formats do to things.
OBJ when you export should have a option to save the materials to a mat file if I remember that way you load that or import it and it should apply them to the OBJ objects. BUt it sounds as if you got things workin >

nah, this is fixable with a reset xform.

utilities, reset xform, then colapse, and export it again.

its just a negative axis problem.

and, if you experiment problems of scale/mirror, try the reset xform and it solves it in most cases

Do you believe in Love?

Ah, did not know that, have to keep that in mind because I do a lot of exporting to 3ds to use in AutoCad, thanks

In Poser, when you import your object, under the IMPORT OPTIONS dialog, check the "Make the polygon normals consistent." There is also a check box for "Flip Normals".

BTW what version of Poser are you using?
