Wrong button pressed

Okay so i am using Max 7 and i have pressed a button or done something that has thrown me for a loop. I guess in the long run it doesn't make a diff but it is getting to me.

Okay so the Y,X and Z axis. there is normaly a little box (or cube) between the line, the way i use it is to move objects on one Axis or using teh box on two or more Axis... Like is say not a big problem but i an new and i would rather do it this way then try and adapt to a new way...

So does anyone know what i am on about! and how to get my little box back.

Matt

try looking in the context menus, help files, or the manual for a list of standard hotkeys

um... let me think... okay say you have a box, i wish to cut a hole in that box that goes all the way though... so i need the same shape on both sides of the box so that i can put the hole in... but when i try and cut on opposite sides of the box all i manage to do is cut one side.

look up the terms symmetry, mirror, bridge and boolean and you'll find what you need. symmetry and mirror should be pretty obvious... with bridge you can automatically remove polys and build structures connecting those polys - useful for putting a hole through something but can have problems if the 2 "entrances to the tunnel" aren't identical. or theres boolean which can be useful but can also cause problems like cleanup problems, extra verts or just frequently crashing your system. another way would be to extrude your hole more than halfway into your axis of symmetry, apply a symmetry modifier and the hole will run all the way through.

here what i do when i want a hole trough someting. i delete my face and the oposite end face, i take the bordure, shift-drag it trough, then merge the vertices.
its the clean way.

you're doing the exact same thing that bridge does, except you're doing it the hard way All you have to do is to select your opposing faces and hit 'bridge'
