PolyTrans conversion question

Hi!

For conversion, I'm using Okino PolyTrans. I export the meshes in .obj format and then import them in 3DS Max wirh the GuruWare obj importer. Anytime import the .obj file, the mesh looks jagged. I can help this with using the "Smooth" function in Max but I hope that you guys here can help me in solving the problem at its roots, that is, in PolyTrans. In some other cases, when I try to open the .obj file I converted with PolyTrans, Max says "Invalid Vertex Error" and I can't open it.

If you have words of 3D wisdom with which you can help me, please tell them

Cheers,

KnightRider

Does it do the same thing if you use Max directly to import the OBJ file instead of the Guruware importer? Also, when you say it's jagged do you simply mean that it has flat faces without any smoothing applied or are the verts warped?

My random WIP thread which includes some hints and tips on modelling which _may_ be useful for the link above...!

The same thing happens with Max's built-in importer. I don't know what warped verts mean but the objects' surfaces look like they were cogs or gears...

Polytrans needs to go in your 3dsmax Utilities tab. From there import directly into 3dsmax. Do not why you are doing an extra step for this.

I converted a buch of meshes until now, and all that I can say, is that I got the same weird problems as you when using Polytrans. With the plugins that Wjaspers pointed, the errors are reduced, but donīt go away completelly...
With Deep Exploration, the conversion process is much more trustable, at least is what I can say until now.
Anyway, remember that conversions arenīt like a breeze. Good tools can help you, as a mesh with a good geometry in his native application, but youīll always have work to do.

2- Science Fiction itīs only FICTION. Donīt argue as it is a real thing. It isnīt!
