I built one of these once. Or twice. Or seven times, something like that. Actually, I built my first one five or six years ago and I've been trying to do an accurate one in all that time. My last one took me 3 days or so to build and is probably about 98% accurate.

Awesome work on the hanger doors though, as freepoo said, there's a tiny bit of segmentation. But, I'm sure you can fix that.

i have noticed the bay doors myself already a while ago. the reason its so hard to make them higher res, is that when i create a sphere (of which i make the doors) i can't make it as smooth as i wish (or, let it have as many polys as i wish) its limited to 32 polys horizontal and 32 vertical. so its kinda tricky to make it smoother.

edit: i've improved lighting and shadows a bit. also placed a light inside the shuttlebay.

after some struggle, i won. the bay doors are smooth now.


next:
#1 = front of the engineering hull
#2 = redo the neck
#3 = redo the saucer section
#4 = redo the nacelles
#4 = texture everything that's left
#5 = add windows to the saucer section

then i should be ready to release the mesh to public.

Its an edge smoothing technique, that adds more facets to our models in MAX, it helps to round corners and also helps to cancel out the meshsmooting extremes in NURMS subdivision or smoothing... We can use it on verteces and edges, it divides it, so it looks like a bevel.

Yes that can have the same effect, but is more underdeveloped and can be awkward to use, i tried it on the Wanderer...

oh what the heck, ill just improvise until anim8or gets new functions. btw, version 0.95 is really close to final release!! yeaay! its got realtime shaders and hardware rendering of scenes!! SUPERRRRRFAST!!!!

oh, and i almost finished the front of the engineering hull. its testrendering now. should get a new pic in a few minutes.
