![]() It looks better, but I see what Eric was talking about with the illumination. Maybe a lens flare, like the SAL 9000 and HAL 9000 in 2010 would be in order. | |

| It is nothing serious... but I think you might be using the wrong typeface on the top... it looks a bit too thin (as compared to the pic below anyway...) It would be good to be able to get that red glow a bit stronger too. Nice work and very cool idea! |

| It kind of even looks like it might be an outlined typeface in this screen grab from the movie... ...and I guess the red glow looks really small in this image... I'll have to see if I can find other screen grabs from the movie itself. look at the first pic on this page: 2001: A Space Odyssey Internet Resource Archive: Gallery |

Blog Entries: 5 | It is hard to tell what type of typeface the real Hal has. And the Red glow kind of changes from pic to pic that see of Hal. I will try something different to try to get it to look better. I will also try a different font to see how it looks. Thanks JeffrySG. |

| no problem! i guess the best thing would be to look for other reference pictures taken from screen grabs from 2001. it might be time to pop the dvd in and go to the source |

| I always wanted to ask this question. Was there truly something wrong with HAL-9000? From what my friend told me, HAL was fine but the mission orders he received prior to the mission conflicted with others he had and it confused him. It bothered him too. |

| SFM Nugget | HAL was programmed to lie to the B-crew (Poole and Bowman), which was in basic conflict with his design - to report accurately and truthfully. He became paranoid and killed the crew - possibly because then he would have had no-one to lie to anymore, solving the conflict. The orders came from above Floyd, pretty much straight from the top. To the pics - it looks like the 'eye' is textured onto the lens itself. It's hard to see in the film, but the red glow is inset into the eye and the fisheye lens sits in front of it. |
