Cool Raw Greebles - Expanded

At Brickheads request, I am posting this here as well...

I came up an idea for a totally different kind of greeble then Ive ever seen before. Instead of having flat greebles to slap against a flat surface, I started building complete 3D machine parts that be rotated and attached to each other sort of like legos. All fitting within a grid system.

Here are a few of the tests that I did in the early stages...

and to keep the trek people happy...

Here is the most current test... (in this pic some of the pipe ends have been removed. I have designed the pack in such a way to make this easy without leaving a mess.)

And lastly Ive laid them out 1 by 1...

(the panel sections you see are perfectly sized to match the grid system. It was part of a secondary experiment to see if a ship could be built around the greebles. Turned out to be very poly intensive though.)

Very interesting aproach to greebling. Sorta like Lego blocks, instead of the usual greeble "flat plates". It seems pretty easy to use those for engines components, or even industrial scenary.

Nice work! Are you developing more?

Thanx... And to answer your question... yes. As I get new ideas, I add them to the pack.

The real interesting feature of this setup is that by rotating any 1 greeble in a different direction, it looks very different, this makes it possible to reuse the same greeble over and over, with out it seeming too repetitive.

Verrrry interesting. I was trying for something similar with the pipes set in my greeble pack. You've had more success. Is this project intended for public release?

The way that I accomplished it was by combining the pipe grid as part of the same object in each greeble. Most of these blocks of greebles were assembled in minutes, simply by selecting the face on a pipe end and duplicating it onto another pipe end.

I have already released it to a few select individuals for testing and such. Private release is definite, public... well, im still debating.

I hear you on that. Roughly 1,000 people have downloaded my greeble packs from here since the crash (and about another 500-600 prior to that, IIRC), and a unknown number have downloaded them from scifi3d and 3dpalace. I damned sure haven't seen 1,000 WIP threads using the greebles, and i've only run across 1 or 2 folks using them without credit. If you won't see people using them, what's the point of wide release? I seem to remember Fractalsponge having a similar opinion after the release of his ISD mesh.

Not that I'm saying don't release the greebs, but I can see why you might not.
