Illustrious : original Battleship.

Something i've been working for a college project (studying 3D modeling in Max) Got a deadline for her as well

The Illustrious is big.

Mile and a half long big.

Mile and a half long and bristling all sorts of weapons big. (you get the idea ).

After doing a non-sci fi idea for our first animation task, i decided to do a lot of sci fi for my next task (its a free for all, you can do what ever subject you want).

Okay. So i'm starting preatty large for a first WIP, but hey, gotta start somewhere. Still in the early stages, the details are being worked on.....

And if you want, i'll post her backstory later, meanwhile, please look at the preatty pictures and please leave comments, questions and suggestions. Always helpful.

Cheers

Good to se this mate

I like the design, the renders are really sweet, are you using a skylight one those

Anyway, you allready know what I think about the amount of guns... or at least the effect I think it has on the design...

Cool design, keep at it mate

I really like how you've placed large concentrations of detail to oppose the large, smooth regions. It's very nice. I would just you follow that when panelling and crate subtle, shallow panels for the smooth areas and then created a great concetration of greebles in the busy parts. Good work so far

2d art is treated as a bastard child in 3D forums.
There are cultures on this planet that are just plain not ready for advanced technologies like explosives and automatic guns

Thanks all. Glad to see people like here

Tovette: ah....welll, you see I kind of made large, nice thick panel's

Doing some renders of this and i thought "you can't see those panels..." so i kind of went uber thick

But don't worry, i plan to fill those gaps with greebles and other things once i've got the rest of the ship panelled up.

Oh, and one last piont, i'm thinking of making the other side have a slightly different panel layout. I know it might look confusing, but i want the Illustrious to have that "slightly crappy, old and very unique" feel to her.

oh, and any comments, questions and suggestions are REALLY HELPFUL! She's just too big!

good job man. I like all the domes spread across the hull.

LOTR in Space, but with no good guys and no cheesy ending.

Ah, well i havn't introduced you to Steve or Bob yet, the 6ft high measuring blocks. That, and the tower on top isn't the bridge (which, like nuGalactica is deep inside the ship) its.....something. I dunno, maybe its the accounting office or something...

Oh, and got the other side paneled. One step closer to completion....one tiny step closer
