Nice engine... but add about 8 more cylinders! If you're going over the top, go all the way! Actually, really looking sweet!

Take a look at the "Crimson Skies" alternate reality... They have some pretty wacky planes in there too. Here is a link Crimson Skies Universe - Crimson Skies - Featured Planes

I agree it does have a little bit of a GeeBee Air Racer feel. Love the engine, but I agree that 16 or 20 cylinders would really give it life and lift

Great start

Thanks, Paul. Crimson Skies site was just what I was looking for. Much appreciated. Will hopefully have a WIP update later today or early tomorrow.

Couple More Cylinders

I took Aethernaut and Tinpau's advice and added a few more cylinders to the engine along with a few other bits and pieces. The reason I spent time on the engine is to give me the option to do 'maintenance' type scenes later.

Could continue to tinker with it, but think its time I moved onto developing the external aethestic.

As always thanks for the advice and see what you think.

also take a look at sky captain and the world of tomorrow for a few ideas (not that you need many) but a reasonable source and not a bad film IMHO

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)

also there is a awful lot of movie trivia on IMDB about this film which i found quite interesting hope you enjoy

Very cool! I like your idea of having a crazy radial cylinder system. That thing looks like a super meaty engine now.

Engine Mount and Guns

I know I said that I would leave the detail of the engine and move onto the exterior, but I am afraid that I got a little caught up in it. I have done a mount for the engine and mounted two .50 calibre machine guns underneath. They are based on the old water-cooled Browning 1917 machine gun. I changed it to air cooled and added an extra barrel for prosterity.

Let me know what you think.

Ps. Think I'm going to move onto the landing gear followed by the cockpit while I have this penchant for detail.

Man, that thing has got teeth! I like the final layout of the engine and guns. Look forward to the gear and cockpit. You might as well just develop the whole airframe before you skin it. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Awsome! That engine looks so realistic, it's hard to believe you just made it up!

I love the machine guns too, No need to make any changes on my opinion, but they would probably do the pilot more good if they were mounted above the engine, rather than below. That way they'd be easier to aim at the enemy.

Point taken on the positioning of the guns, Chris. Let's just say that in this alternate reality, the calibration of gun to sight is bloody good! Thanks for the kind words, though.
