A glimpse at the fuselage

Aethernaut has twisted my arm to do the structure of the whole fuselage and build the landing gear, cockpit, fuel tanks et al. This should help me to look at the practicalities suggested by Coolhand and others to make the Elf Owl more believable.

I am working on that now, but in the mean time and for your viewing pleasure, I have included WIPs of the engine, mount and guns alltogether. I have also included a glimpse of the direction I am going with the forward elements of the fuselage.

Enjoy and, as always, if you have a moment, give a thought, opinion, critique - you get the idea.

Ps. The advice thus far has been excellent. Keep it coming!!

That is some serious detail? Is that all modelled or is some textured in?

Decided not to go as far as putting threads on the bolts; but, yes. All modelled down to the last nut and bolt. Keep watching; all being well, the fuselage should be and interesting case study in detail. But be reminded that I am making this up as I go along with the odd reference to a WWII photo.

Fantastic Sean!

I love how that all looks inside the fuselage! That's some seriously detailed work you've got going on there. Can't wait to see where this goes from here.

That looks like an excellent start to a cutaway. I suggest scouring Google for cutaway drawings of various WW2 aircraft for reference.

By the early 1930s there is certainly the potential for WWII gunsight technology. In an alternate reality it can be a little further along especially considering a world of defense driven economies allowing the guns to be placed anywhere on the plane.

HUZZAH!! I'm definitely looking forward to watching this badboy progress.

Fuselage takes shape...

I took MagnumHB's advice a scoured Google for cutaway pictures of WWII aircraft. They were very helpful, especially the Spitfire. This update is barely worth the Kilobytes it takes up, but I thought there may be some interest. Aside from the basic structure, I've added the fuel tank under the pilot.

Apologies for the lack in progress, but I like to texture as I go along. It keeps the interest. On past projects I have abandoned good meshes due having to go back, take them apart and texture - almost seems like you have to go back to the beginning.

In any event, see what you think... Advice welcome (but you know that).

Looking really great.

Seems like with the fuel tank that far forward the center of gravity is all on the nose. Granted, the center of lift is all on the tail because of the wing arrangement so, it flies like a log on acid! I guess it doesn't really matter as it is complete fantasy after all. It's still a really fun design!

Look forward to more please.

If that update isn't worth the kilobytes then I'm gonna go delete both my WIP threads cause they sure as hell aren't lol
