In any event, she is a pain to model because her hull design mixes complex curves with faceted surfaces
i don't see how the shapes on the pegasus are necessarily anything more or even as complex that what star wars or trek use, if anything i think the shape breaks down into simple geometry a lot more easily than most of those designs. i don't really see any 'complex curves' on this one, but i may be looking at it from a different point of view. i think with this ship, (aside from the astounding lack of references) the devil is in the details. the body is a basic boxy shape, the head areas a few curved boxes, the hangars are distorted boxes, i mean, it's not the poitn of this thread to say that (sorry to be ot) but it most certainly gains its character with the surface details and the attention it has clearly been given by the original artists. despite its similarities to the original tv galactica, they have molded it into something that fits within the reimagined world really well imo.

in any case, it's a tough nut to crack with the limited resources you have, AldrikG, and you're doing a great job so far, a nice wireframe wouldn't go astray either...

This work is great!!! You have done a great job on the Pegasus. I do have one small question though... I thought that the back of the Pegasus where you have the one big "engine" or whatever they want that to be, was split down the middle from top to bottom. I will try and find a picture of it and I could be wrong. Regardless I glad this is back on the boards and will be following it very closely.

One other quick thing... someone asked how big Pegasus is in relation to Galactica. The Pegasus is bigger in size. This is according to an article I read on another board. Apparently this will be confirmed in the extended edition of the Pegasus episode on the 2.5 DVD set and already has been in one of the interviews with RDM. We will see if it holds true or not, but I am going to believe it for now anyways.

Again great work and I look forward to many more updates.

ACK! No thanks!! I think I would implode if I had any kind of deadline for this stuff. I have the utmost respect for everyone on production teams. Just not for me. Thanks for the compliment though!

I agree with you here. The Galactica is MUCH more complex in shape. The main issue I am having with the Pegasus is what little reference I have for it is usually shot using very little lighting (making it more dramatic as well as giving it that sense of mass and power GotchaBird mentioned) and WONKY perspective.

The very first time you see Pegasus, it looks like she is half as tall as she is long. Other shots make her look REALLY wide.
(Yes, I have been staring at screen-grabs too long!)

Mighty fine build, AldrikG!

Like Tovette, I wonder if we'll see her textured and lit.

Yeah dude, i know your pain, i pored over those screengrabs for days before i started, i went through and measured elements based on their perspective and stuff, i'll collate some of the custom refs i worked out and email them to ya if you like, that way we all get a bit more of an idea what this beast really looks like.

I gotta ask, will you be doing a bottom/ventral view of the Pegasus?
