The DS9 tech manual says the entire cockpit area is a single lifepod capable of holding 4-8 people, it's supposed to have breakaway charges and it leaves the main section behind.

excellent it back. this had to be one of the most detail meshes of a runabout that is out there.

the runabout consists of several modules:

-the warp sled
-the stern section
-the mid section (which can be one big module, 2 smaller modules or 4 VERY small modules... maybe there are even more configurations possible)
-the cockpit

every single module (expect the warp sled) can detach from the rest and serve as escape pod.

i wouldn't count on the ds9 tech manual
