Now BACK TO ZE TOPIC FOOLS!!!

Freek: when i said panels i mean't the whole ship. Textures are fine and dandy, but they don't show much ... texture (ie: height, depth, whatever). And yah the windows help...but...um...they seem to be in just one place More over the whole ship would be fantastic and help with the scale/

BTW: does anyone know how to make the corrogated effect over the hanger bay doors? (ie: Like the Prom and on Freek's Minotaur). I'm..er....not entierly how [seriously: not a noob. still. ]. Any help would be great

cjabates: thats one mighty, mighty, MIGHTY fine model. Looks dead cool, of a bit low poly. Seriously, bump up the poly's and make it detailed and all. I just love the cool shape and engines. Such an amazing design you've got there. Very unique. Keep at it.

Oh, and sorry if nobody liked the new avatar. Think of him as a moody a$$ed pirate instead *flees*
Weirdest page of the thread? Nah, there have been weirder. Trust me, I'm an expert on weird.

Ok, I can adjust the depth of the texture via some bitmapping. Don't want to go back and remodel everything to make the geometry match the paneling. That would take forever, and ever and ever. And like I said, there is still a bit of work to be done yet. More windows will be coming, as well as details on the sides. I just haven't gotten that far yet.

Now, to make those coorgated panels, you can do two things: one easy one difficult.

!.) Easy - use a texture with the appropriate mapping.
2.) Harder - create a stack of cylinders on their side, then put a box half the depth of the cylinders, then alternate exery other one set to negative so it will cut out it's shape from the box. The non cut outs will create the high points and the cut outs will be the low points. And there you have it, a simple, yet sort of tedious, corrogated panel. I've included some shots to help illustrate.

That's only two of the ways you can do it. I'm sure there is others that are faster and easier in the more advanced modeling programs, but way #2 is pretty easy to do as well.

It's not a bad avatar, it's just that the show has been very disappointing, some earlier than others.

Sorry, its just i'm used to textures being up on after all the modeling and detailings been completed.

Although i hate texturing as much as i hate American/Pop Idol (which is a lot) so what do i know?!!?

No problem Choo. That's what this thread is for. [/blatant re-jack/rescue of thread] LOL!!! If you need me to, I can render out the texture I use in Bryce into a 2d image with a bump map, in case you don't want to go the geometry route. And yes please do post the results, I'd like to see how well the technique translates into other 3d programs. So far, I'm loving Bryce 6. The shear number of built in textures is REALLY nice. It has just about everything you can think of.

Thank you. It's all the people that have taken the time to embrace the thread that has made it so successful. Not sure where to get the best shots of an Ori warship or Wraith Hive ship. There are some fantastic renditions in the gallery section, but for actualy screenshots, not sure where to go for those, and as far as I know StargateCaps is still offline. The one thing I can suggest is, to ask the makers of the Ori and Wraith ships models used in the gallery pix what they used for reference. Given the quality of their work, I'd say they are probably the best source of info around, and would probably know where to get the best shots.

Finally got the panelling done to the top of the 'Churchill' Hope it's come out clear enough...

I am also in the early stages of thinking up a heavily armed version of this (A bit like the C130 Herc. Vs the transport Herc.). So far all i've got is that it'll have double the number of rail guns and a load of missile tubes along the top of the ship

Angel's Reach

Congrats on getting the paneling done (i know that feeling of WHY!?! you get about a quarter of the way through ). Only Crit/advice is that it doesn't seem too symetrical and too crazy and random.

For example, the space shuttle had some sort of pattern to it. Oh, and if you do one side/half, all you need to do is flip it over to the other, and voila! a complete set of panels

Just my two cents. Good modeling though Lee, keep at it. Like the idea of a heavily armered verison too. very veritile

Possibly for one of two reasons:
1) the russians had the plans for the Prometheus so some of the technology was transferred over

and 2) the production team were trying to save money by re dressing sets they'd already built.

I have nothing to say ... except that .. and that .. and that too ....
