Yet another update

Here's an update to my U.S.S. Phoenix. I think it's about 75% done now. I'm actually not happy with the name more than anything now. So, it's probably not going to stay named the Phoenix. I'm thinking of going with either USS Abraxis or USS Callisto.

I rotated the landing bay top edge back 25 degrees. Added docking doors to the sides. Put down the landing bay textures, which looks pretty decent if I do say so myself. Added greeble like details to the main hull. And then some details here and there to improve the quality. Decreased the light levels a tiny bit.

So, do you guys like the improvements? C&C???

Well done.
Just a dash of Sulaco there for those of us paying attention, eh?

Keep up the good work guys!

Why thank you guys. I aim to please. More importantly, I hope I have inspired you all with new ideas. SG ships shouldn't, nor do they need to be, just slight variations on the Prometheus or Daedalus class. Take the ball and run with it. I personally really like some of the unique concepts people have come out with. I mean, some have come from way out in left field and look fantastic. And that's what's so great about it. So guys and gals, keep modeling as much as possible.

well it's all thanks to you freekzilla, i dont think there's been a thread like this on here ever, not with so many people contributing their designs.

I definately agree that not all earth ships should look the same as the Daedalus or Prometheus with slight mods, one reason why I like your Phoenix design, it seems to have elements of the D but also reminds me of the republic assault ship from star wars as well. Nobody could say dark_sider's designs are just daedalus or prometheus variations!

Something in this week´s episode of SG1 got me thinking (I know it´s a dangeous thing but I promise not to do it more often than necessary). What would a ship design look like if we went back from the elongated ships towards the bulkier ones? Starting from an old concept art I saw a long time ago the result was this shape study:

Some parts like pods and the superstructure still need to be fleshed out before it shows the complete basic idea but I hope you´ll see what I mean.

Somebody blow something up, I'm in a really bad mood. Thanks in advance.
