Mustafar Enviroment Project II

Hei!

Glad to see forum so quickly already fully running.

I will start to post here coming updates that used to be in mustafar catwalk(work in progress) thread.

I got new pc btw.

And the latest is Mustafar terrain opening try, the jpg version was still too big to upload to photobucket. Its also very dark, its night and i suggest to look it in windows previewer in slideshow mode

Theres something wrong with the tiny lavaflows. I also miss bigger ones, which i have to do in realflow.

Thanks.

I mainly tested couple days of ways to model terrain shapes without getting into trouble with faces etc and keeping it clean. I think i found bretty good way to do it. I will keep enlargeing the terrain. The one in that image is kind of opening area, where in the edges should come steep cliffs and canyon type of areas and valleys etc.

I will have in the short vfx(if i ever make it) and starting scene doing kind of 270 degre pan slowly showing off the battle of mustafar.

Using 3d max 8.0, extruding, beveling, scale-ing faces, noise, wave, subdividing - I model piece by piece the shapes. I dont model each of them tho. For exampel i modeled one type of hill and then made several copies of it and altered them all, they had same parent but looked quite a different.
Like that:

I made in photoshop seamless textures of reallife rocks and cliffs, small rocks in textures btw give look of ashes . And bump, displacement map for extra detail.
