Oh man I hear ya dude. Forgoing auto-methods for the sake of wanting no symmetrical panels patterns, thus hand-picking/creating the panels on my E has been driving me up the fraggin' wall. Luckily I am on the last phase/part (2ndary Hull) of doin' it.

Hehe Well I will probably stick to a mixture of reflected and unique to break it up visually, plus textures also break them up a little more. But mainly it's the horrible weird shapes on cones, and between triangular and circular windows... and have them all tie in consistently with all the other panels all over the station... which do my head in

Yep, working out logical patterns can drive ya nuts (probably the exact reason some choose to forego the process), but they are essential to keep with a proper industrial design sense, and add an extra level of realistic detail IMO.

E is my personal "Hot Grail" of sci-fi ships. I will never put in the level of obsessive perfection and time in that I have put into her with any other mesh. She is the one-and-only mesh I will ever build crazy-nuts like I have.

It's more a labor-of-love and pursuit of a level of uber-perfection skill-wise. In the end, with her, the book wil be closed and I will know I could never have built her better.

Anything else in the future I will use similar methods to what you mention. But E, she's my gal, and I can never settle for anything other than custom everything for her.

Look forward to seeing what you come up with dude.

well it's deciding on the physical details and matching what's on the inside to the outside There's some major removable panels for the focusing arrays to be able to be removed, but the rest is just ceiling, so time to be imaginative

very nice mate.

I still think you could turn that into some sort of standalone ship.

That thing, if you would use it seperately, would make a cool moon/Mars lander

Not had time to do much modelling this week as I am working on my Portfolio, but I finally transfered all the surfaces to my docking bay model, and fired off an epic level render (about 7 hours hehe)
