Hmm... 'test 4' (the earliest one I have) 4th March 2004, so not quite

Ambient occlusion is a process whereby you calculate shadowing, based off a virtual skydome. From a surface, sample rays shoot out and where they meet an object you get occlusion, So depending on how hemmed in a polygon is will determine how much 'shadow' it gets from occlusion. In the case of LW, you can add occlusiion as a node, in the surface tree, and although I've added it to the diffuse colour chanel, you could add it to anything, making 'dirt' (and it's often called a dirt shader) or even making it glow It's one of those 'sounds complicated, but not that hard to do' things

Thanks for your comments guys, now back to that interior, so I can do some more renders of that!

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

Amazing work.

Your station isn't haunted by any chance? Because the 38 years of construction part sure strikes a chord.

Winchester Mystery House - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Winchester Mystery House is a well-known California mansion that was under construction continuously for 38 years and is reputed to be haunted. It once was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, but is now a tourist attraction. Under Sarah Winchester's guidance, construction on the house continued 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, until her death 38 years later on September 5, 1922.[1] The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million."

Yes the ghost of 'pink-man' walks the halls, moaning "finish me" but I'm too busy rearranging the halls

and err yes, if I had 5.5 million dollars, it likely wouldn't take so long to make or indeed render, when I installed by gigantic render farm

Well the objects there have to add up to about 55 meg, but probably about half the file are redundant cutting and duplicate layers. My Pluto station folder, is about 4.5 gig

and thanks

Damn dude I hope you make regular backups of that folder. I sure as hell do with my Universe Project and it's a little bigger than your folder.
