I love this design, in my head, i see this heavy Viper as probably a modified Mark IV or Mark V.

Definatley bigger in design than a mark II and possibly fitted with a FTL drive. Maybe a long range viper for Re-con missions?

just a bit on imagination on my part i guess

That has been talked about before in this thread... I never gave it that much thought until shadow told me this thing could easily hold a FTL drive! As for size, BJ did a pretty good scale comp of the Mk II, you should be able to find it in this thread, if not go look at my site!

I wonder, has anyone ever done a render of what they think the vipers Mark III through VI might look like?

[edit] yeah i went onto your site and had a look at the comparison pics. From that pic you can see the cockpit size is generally the same size. But its obviously more streamlined and bigger in bulk (with an in built FTL drive ) lol

Love to see this in an animation with the regular vipers when it's finished.

It could be a spin off project from the same manufacturer... but a modified bird? Nope. Too much custom hardware. To me this seems like it began life as a competitor to the Raptor, and eventually this bird was tailored into a fighter-bomber role and the raptor became an AWACs or Joint Star type of communications platform.

They play with a pretty loose set of rules for FTL on the show. If the "Laura" (Blackbird) could have an FTL, I don't see why a lot of other ships wouldn't have it. Size doesn't seem to be a major factor.

FTL doesn't appear to need any exterior hardware such as a projector or coil housing. There's no reason the Mark VIIs shouldn't have FTL. And the civilian ships that were left behind in the miniseries... no excuse really.

I've seen a few 2D versions. I'd be more interested in getting a good look at Bulldog's stealth viper from "Hero".

I'm sure there will be such a render. First I'll need to get my hands on the Mark II and VII in something besides max format. Blender can't read it.

Needed to do something besides meshwork so I did some playing with textures. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for colors, what style of weathering, etc..., so if you notice something at the front looks different from the panels further back that's why. This is a very rough draft.

Question to BJ - What is the typeface you used for your numbering on the forward fuselage?

This is clearly not a final texture, just a test. I still thought I would share since people are posting and deserve to see something.

Very nice design here. Great modelling too . The cockpit bears some resemblence to that of the X Wing from Star Wars. Just wondering if you are gonna use the new Mk 7 Colour scheme or the Old Mk2s? Both would be cool.

^The cockpit IS inspired from the X-WING

RE the coloring, I think you should just stick to the scheme from the new series... it'll help sell the overall design! In my book anyway!

Keep it up!
